IEEE ICNP 2021 Workshop on Networking for Edge Computing and Distributed Cloud Applications

In conjunction with the 29th IEEE ICNP 2021, Virtual Event, November 1, 2021

Edge computing/distributed cloud offers a much more fluid, real-time environment. It moves applications, data and services away from the central cloud to the edge. The shift to edge computing/distributed cloud has new requirements and offers opportunities for innovation applications. This workshop covers all aspects of network architecture, model, algorithm and protocol for edge computing/distributed cloud applications.

Topics

We seek original completed and unpublished work not currently under review by any other journal/magazine/conference. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Network architecture, model, algorithm, protocol design for edge computing/distributed cloud application
  • Ubiquitous convergence of computing, network and storage for edge computing/distributed cloud application
  • Deterministic networking technology for edge computing/distributed cloud application

Paper Submission

The workshop accepts only novel, previously unpublished papers. All final submissions of accepted papers must be written in English with a maximum paper length of six (6) printed pages (10-point font) including figures. No more than one (1) additional printed page (10-point font) may be included in final submissions and the extra page (the 7th page) will incur an over length page charge of USD100. Yunjie Liu

Yunjie Liu received the B.S. degree in technical physics from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 1968. He is currently the Director of Purple Mountain Laboratories, the Academician of China Academy of Engineering, the Chief of the Science and Technology Committee of China Unicom, and the Dean of the School of Information and Communication Engineering, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. His current research interests include next generation network, and network architecture and management.

Walid Saad

Walid Saad received his Ph.D degree from the University of Oslo in 2010. Currently, he is a full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, where he leads the Network sciEnce, Wireless, and Security (NEWS@VT) laboratory, within the Wireless@VT research group. His research interests include wireless networks, machine learning, game theory, security, unmanned aerial vehicles, cyber-physical systems, smart grids, and network science. Dr. Saad is a Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.

Dr. F. Richard Yu is currently a Professor at Carleton School of Information Technology and the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (cross-appointment) at Carleton University, Ottawa. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada, an IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow, and Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) Fellow. He has a strong research background in cyber-security, connected and autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and wireless systems.

Tao Huang

Dr. Tao Huang is currently a Professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). He also serves as the Vice President of the Future Network Innovation Research Institute of Jiangsu Province, the director of the Future Network Center of Purple Mountain Laboratories, and the chief engineer of the National Science Engineering Project of the Future Network Experimental Facility. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the area of network architecture, network artificial intelligence, routing and forwarding, and network virtualization. He has published 100+ papers in reputable journals/conferences (including IEEE TON, Network, and so on), 6+ books, and 30+ patents. Some achievements have been acknowledged by National Science & Technology Prize and applied in the scenarios such as education and scientific research, telecommunications, broadcasting and television, and national defense. Now he is responsible for the project about constructing open, collaborative, and controllable software-defined networks.

Ming Li

Ming Li is an assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of Texas at Arlington. She received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sun Yat-sen University, China, in 2007, the M.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Beijing University of Posts and Communications, China, in 2010, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Mississippi State University, Starkville, in 2014, respectively. Her research interests include mobile computing, internet of things, security, and privacy-preserving computing. Her work won Best Paper Awards in Globecom 2015 and DASC 2017, respectively. She has been serving as an editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. She received the NSF CAREER Award in 2020 and is a member of the IEEE and the ACM.
Renchao Xie, IEEE Senior Member, received the Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2012. From Nov. 2010 to Nov. 2011, he visited Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada, as a Visiting Scholar. From 2014 to 2020, he was an assistant Professor and associate Professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, respectively. Currently, he is a Professor in the School of Information and Communication Engineering at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. His research interests include edge computing, information centric networking, industrial internet of things. He has published 80+ papers in reputable journals/conferences, 3 books, and 34 granted patents. He received the Best Paper Awards at IEEE ICC 2014. He has served as the Technical Program Committee (TPC) Co-Chair of numerous conferences. He has also served for several journals as a reviewer, including IEEE Network, IEEE Trans. on Communications, IEEE Trans. On Vehicular Technology and so on.
Dr. Shuo Wang is currently an assistant Professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He has telecom experience of 10 years and focused on the solution and strategy of network architecture, network virtualization, and deterministic network. He has been involved in several research projects (such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing Science and Technology Project) as the project coordinator, work-package leader, and in other roles. He has published 10+ papers in reputable journals/conferences and 10+ patents. Now he is responsible for the project about machine learning-based traffic engineering in data centers.
